Studio guide

From an idea to a reusable asset

This guide stays in your workspace. You can read it while an asset is preparing without losing your crop, pixel edits or staged changes.

  1. Select and inspect a slot. Use the inventory filters, then read its dimensions, palette, transparency, geometry and usage requirements. Compare the current asset with your draft. Copy an AI brief when you need a starting point.
  2. Choose and prepare your replacement. Upload a supported image, font or sound. For images, adjust the crop and choose Prepare derivative; the original stays intact. For small sprites, edit pixels and choose Prepare edited sprite. Recipe-only slots use supported theme tokens or reviewed source changes instead of uploaded images.
  3. Record provenance. Enter the actual creator, source, rights or license, and the effective prompt when one was used. An upload or AI result does not establish permission to use it. Inspect the pivot, rotor anchors or frame regions when the slot needs them.
  4. Validate and stage. Choose Validate and stage replacement. Fix any reported requirement and try again. Preparation alone has not added the replacement to your workspace; staging creates the draft revision.
  5. Inspect, save and export. Check the comparison and applicable previews. Save local revision keeps the workspace on this device. Export .rltheme transfers the staged collection, original files and revision history for review and release adoption. Neither action publishes the public game or changes player saves.

Keep your work

Pixel Undo and Redo affect the sprite editor. Undo draft and Redo draft affect staged, unsaved workspace revisions. A successful Save local revision clears the draft undo stack. Prepare and stage an unfinished sprite or upload, or explicitly discard it, before saving, exporting or switching assets.

If local saving is unavailable, finish and stage any pending edit, then export your workspace. Keep that export before Reset to saved, which discards staged unsaved changes. Reload saved requires you to resolve unfinished edits and staged changes first. A stale save from another tab also needs this recovery path.

Import collection validates a .rltheme bundle and stages its assets for inspection. It does not save or publish them. Use Undo draft to reverse the import before saving, or Save local revision when you want to keep it on this device.

Review what the preview can show

Native pixels, enlarged pixels, transparency and field context help inspect an asset. In Field context, choose Game mode. Team arena and Team scene select a bounded Team fixture; State remains the selected asset's own state. These are bounded previews, not a complete playthrough of every mode or screen. Technical validation does not approve the art: record the checks you actually performed before marking a revision reviewed.

Interface changes text face, size and reduced effects for the tools without staging a theme change. Opening or closing this guide leaves preview playback as you chose it. Press Escape while reading here to close the guide. Holding it will not cancel preparation; release it before pressing Escape again to use the normal operation or editor action.

Artwork collections · source candidates

Review a versioned artwork packet with its original files. Pixel art is the default; photographic reveals need an explicit collection choice. This separate authoring draft does not change the saved .rltheme workspace or approve runtime artwork.

Downloads the selected original or derivative without resizing or re-encoding. Keep the .rlart packet for its full provenance. This does not bind, install or approve artwork.

Prepare board image

Keeps the original and adds a separate PNG candidate. Fit preserves the whole picture with ink borders; centre crop removes outer edges. Pixel art uses nearest-pixel sampling; photographs use smooth sampling. Inspect the result before production approval.

Choose a packet. Reference links are never fetched automatically.

Compare the selected file with its declared retained parent. Native pixels shows one image pixel per CSS pixel in a scrollable frame; device scaling may differ. This is artwork inspection, not a mission or approval.

Usage and exact requirements

    Upload, crop and geometry

Original file bytes are retained. For images, cropping creates a separate PNG derivative at the slot’s frame size. Fonts and audio keep their file formats; pixel cropping does not apply. Check the selected slot’s accepted formats and requirements before choosing a replacement.

    No replacement selected.

Pixel editor · single layer, up to 128 × 128

Choose a supported sprite slot, then create a blank frame or edit the current raster. Larger artwork uses crop and metadata controls above.

    Theme tokens

Tokens update this studio’s previews. Save/export is separate; player settings and gameplay rules are not modified.

    AI prompts

    Asset revision history

Reverting binds an earlier immutable asset in a new theme revision. It never overwrites the original record.

This records your evidence in a new immutable revision. A successful import or prompt is not review evidence.
